Emotional Awareness in Technology

There are just so many kinds of technologies out there today that assist in human communication. Online dating apps, social media, or just texting in general. Now obviously these apps could definitely be lacking in the emotional department of the communication, as would make sense considering you are putting words down on a screen rather than speaking directly. Of course, some of these apps have things like emojis that attempt to help with the emotional part of the communication process, unfortunately, most if not all of those can be interpreted to have many meanings. This can lead to multiple misunderstandings, that even if they get resolved, can be extremely irritating to deal with.

There are even some social media services that have deemed to put a built-in call function, like Snapchat or Discord, most likely because that’s a little easier to hear emotion with, not to mention it can be faster in certain situations. Though even if a certain social media didn’t take emotional awareness into account, I don’t think it’s constantly a problem. Now that’s not to say that it can’t be or isn’t a problem sometimes, because it certainly can, and is at times. I think at this point, however, that at least a majority of people realize that how someone truly feels can get distorted through being typed out on an app.
